1970 Series 2 E Type 2+2
Auto, LHD, 90K Miles, Original body and Paint
Previously sold by us as a project car, this remarkably original 1970 series 2 E-Type 2+2 is now up and running. The car still wears its original Willow Green paint and is a very genuine car throughout. It was imported from California by us around 2 ½ years ago and has since undergone a sympathetic refurbishment retaining as much originality as possible. The car had been unused but dry stored for a number of years before making its way to the UK. arriving in a non-running condition with all the necessary NOVA paperwork.
Engine and automatic gearbox
The engine was compression tested prior to attempting to start it. New oil, replacement core plugs, spark plugs, points, oil and filter were fitted. The carburettors were stripped and rebuilt and a replacement hi-torque starter motor fitted along with a new battery. Following this work the engine runs sweetly with good oil pressure. The automatic Borg Warner box was refreshed with new fluid and functions as it should. The radiator was flushed clean with new fluid, the cars runs at the correct operating temperature with the electric fans cutting in as they should.
Suspension and braking
The front suspension was fully stripped and replacement bushes fitted. New steering rack gaiters were fitted along with new brake discs, callipers, brake hoses and pads. At the rear the rear independent suspension cradle was removed from the car allowing the rear callipers to be checked and new brake pads to be fitted together with brake hoses. Replacement bushes were also fitted to the suspension.
The fuel tank was also refurbished along with the tank sender and a new fuel pump fitted. New fuel lines were fitted the full length of the car.
The front seats have been fully stripped and rebuilt with new foam seat pads and webbing. Replacement second hand matching seat covers were sourced and fitted, the original items and head restraints come with the car. The original rear seats have been retained and repaired as appropriate. The car still has its original carpets and these have been cleaned. All other interior trim is original. The steering wheel has been repaired and even the period radio works!
The Willow Green paint is mostly original. The car presents with no rust and although the paint is thin it presents reasonably well and could be retained in this condition. Alternatively the car is an excellent base for a full re paint if desired.
A new front screen and rubber surround were fitted to pass the MOT. New door, bonnet and tailgate seals have also been fitted and a rear screen seal is supplied with the car. Replacement UK lighting lenses have been fitted and the side wing lights have been wired as flasher repeaters.
The underneath is rust free and in remarkable condition for its age.
The original wire wheels have been refurbished and tested with new spokes fitted as required and are fitted with deep treaded tyres.
The electrics have been overhauled, with the wiper motor and washers refurbished, all gauges and switches are in working order aside from a slightly lively rev counter! The car has a full MOT and has recently been registered with the age related number ANM 811H. Shakedown mileage of over 100 miles has resulted in no issues to date. It’s pretty remarkable to find such a well preserved and original example of these cars. Its nigh on 50 years old and as they say ‘It’s only original once’!
