A matching numbers car, supplied to the original owner, Mr E.A Thomas, the MD of a building firm in Southend, in January 1966, who subsequently sold the car after just 3 years to a Mr J.Crotch a Solicitor in Norfolk. When Mr Crotch found a Pagoda to replace his 220, the 220 was put into storage where it remained for 14 years. It then changed hands for the last time in 1989 when Mr W.Secker had the opportunity to purchase the car. As a Mercedes enthusiast and club member, Mr Secker has cherished the car for the past 31 years and this certainly shows when you look at the car today. Not a restored concours example, but instead a well maintained, extremely straight and honest car. The mileage is currently showing just 81483 miles and is believed to be correct. This is backed up by every MOT certificate since going back on the road in 1989, after a fairly long term in storage. The car now presents beautifully, finished in Gold paintwork which polish up well, with a completely original black leather interior, with just the right amount of patina. A folder of history is present including the original buff log books detailing the past ownership, original service invoices from the 60’s, fuel ration book, old tax discs and invoices for past work including a full gearbox overhaul in 2018 and last service in July 2020. The car starts easily, runs smoothly and drives superbly with good brakes, great oil pressure and faultless gear changes. Overall this is a very usable classic car with nice provenance which requires no restoration work, is still rising nicely in value and is just effortlessly cool.
